The Artist
I am not sure
what to share for you to better understand my artistic creations, but it is
said that our life’s journey colours who we are and therefore by extension I
suppose, our art. If that is so, what does knowing of my
journey’s beginnings in the northern climes of Canada to my present
magical lifestyle in subtropical Bahamas, bring to my art?
Does knowing that I journeyed from corporate life
at Sara Lee to the secluded Adagio Art Gallery and Studio
on Grand Bahama Island give insight into my work?
Does the
belief in the saying that if you are not part of the
solution, you are part of the problem show my need to
use our discards as an opportunity for artistic creations?
Does the fact that I am
a self taught artist continuing my artistic development with international teachers
in a variety of mediums show in my work?
Does knowing that whether making a meal
from what is at hand or creating my
“Artistry in Handmade Paper” from paper we recycle,
flowers, leaves and seaweed that we collect from our
landscape, show my devotion to tapping into that which is around me for my
artistry? Or will it suffice to say that I am delighted that the journey
continues everyday with nature, actually REUSING nature, being THE source for my
artistic inspiration. My creative energies are stirred when I experiment with
that which may be considered discards from the environment, seaweed washed on
the shore, clippings from the garden hedge or leaves and flowers on the ground.
I attempt with my artworks to bring pleasure and a feeling that all is well with
the world. This may not be the reality but just the process of making the paper
artistry and being in the moment makes it so for me AND I WANT TO SHARE THAT
FEELING through my art. Artistry in Handmade Paper is my passion and I am
delighted that in my small way I can honour the environment while indulging this
passion. I am a member of the International Association of Papermakers, the
American Papermakers Association, the National Art Gallery of the Bahamas, the
Bahamas National Trust and the Grand Bahama Artists Association.
