Linking Us Together

The TD Summer Reading Club is Canada’s biggest, bilingual summer reading program for kids of all ages, all interests and all abilities.

Every summer the Orangeville Public Library staff rollout a ton of fun programs and reading incentives to foster a love of literacy and life long learning in the community. Children complete challenges, participate in programs and win prizes for reading all summer long.

Throughout the summer staff record how many books are read and reveal the total number at the big finale party at the library. How they reveal the total number of books is always a fun surprise.

Staff have blown up balloons and released them from the ceiling over a crowd of excited readers to represent the thousands of books read, as well as popped a kernel of corn for every book read. In 2018, to help visualize the number of books read, students created a paper chain with each link representing 10 books they read over the summer.

The grand total was 5,358 books read… a 538 paper link chain!

And I, a hand made paper artist, who Re-Imagine Paper Waste for my artistry, feel very honored to be the happy recipient of this wonderful paper chain that now resides in my Adagio Art Gallery. Congratulations to the innovative team at the Orangeville Public Library in Orangeville Canada.
